Rosemarie W. Schenk - Artist Statement
Life is an interesting journey and humans are interesting beings. Their passage is multifaceted with creativity, rewards, turbulence, peacefulness, and hard work. What a stimulating ride, if you have the proper tools. My preferred tools are my imagination, endless tenacity, and feelings. Before I create a piece of work my mind envisions an expressive story which unfolds in ever increasing excitement. Descriptive feelings emerge, transferring into color on my palette, conveyed through a realistic/impressionistic style, with the subject of the painting marrying it all together.
Oil is my medium of choice as it is vibrant and versatile, be it with brush or palette knife. The use of intensity within my palette brings about dramatic romanticism, making an arresting yet serene image, at times forceful, which encourages self-determination of spirit, emphasizes imagination, persistence, emotion, introspection, and celebrates the freedom of character.
